ASSOCIATED STUDENT UNION
WHAT IS THE ASSOCIATED STUDENT UNION (ASU)?
The Associated Student Union (ASU) is a student run organization that represents the interests of students at Los Angeles Valley College. It is comprised of two branches: the Executive Council (a board of student elected and appointed positions), and the Inter-Club Council (a board of representatives from all the clubs on campus).
MISSION STATEMENT
The Associated Student Union strives to represent the student body of Los Angeles Valley College. We encourage student participation, leadership, and community enrichment. We provide students with the opportunity for both personal and professional advancement, empowering them to thrive in all aspects of their lives.
WHY SHOULD I GET INVOLVED WITH THE ASU?
The ASU provides opportunities for leadership, inclusion, team building, and fun activities. Here is a student's account of why she got involved in the ASU.
"I'm a returning student, I've been in the entertainment business (mostly as a dancer) and like every industry work has been slow. I decided to go back to school to at least get my AA and a Child Development Certificate and signed up for online classes. I took a Criminology class not realizing it was sociology, thought it would be about the law. Was going to drop it, went in to meet the teacher (prof Scott) and she so encouraged me... [S]he told me about the [sociology] club and I went to a meeting. I have never been a member of any club but her enthusiasm and passion for the subject inspired me to join the club. I am now a Sociology major and have learned so much by being involved with the many events that our club puts on. I've become so much more aware and open, to well, almost everything. I also love club days, bringing awareness to many different issues that effect us all. I am a proud member of The Sociology Experiment!" --A.
HOW DO I JOIN THE ASU?

All you have to do is pay the $10 ASU semester membership (online or in the business office) and you are ready to get involved. You can enjoy the many student-centered events, activities and programs that the ASU provides throughout the year. You can join a student club or create a new one. And you are able to serve on the ASU Executive Council. (If elected and you are eligible).
