WHAT ARE CAREER AND ACADEMIC PATHWAYS (CAP)?
Every Los Angeles Valley College (LAVC) student belongs to a Career and Academic Pathway (CAP) based on their major. Each CAP provides a program maps with a recommended semester-by-semester path from entry to completion. Each CAP has a dedicated Canvas site, a CAP counselor, and resources to help students succeed on their pathway at LAVC.
Currently Enrolled Students: Join your CAP Canvas Site
You may have noticed a new Canvas tile on your Canvas dashboard with some variation of the name V-[…]CAP along with your other classes. Don’t worry—this is not a class! There are no grades, no homework, and no units. This is your one-stop resource hub designed to help you succeed at Los Angeles Valley College.
Through the CAP Canvas site, you can do the following:
- 🌟 Access LAVC’s Amazing Resources – Discover the wealth of support available to you, both inside and outside the classroom.
- 🎓 Connect with your CAP-Specific Counselor and Professors – Get answers in the "Ask a Counselor" and "Ask a Professor" forums.
- 🛠️ Enhance Your Study Skills – Use toolkits and strategies to boost your academic success.
- ❓ Check the "How to Guide" – Find answers to common questions about succeeding at Valley.
- 🔍 Use the "Smart Search" Tool– Easily find what you need on the site by using the search tool in the navigation menu.
To get started and access the resources, simply click on the “tile” for the CAP Canvas Site on your Canvas Dashboard.
Self-Enroll Option:
Although all students should be automatically added to their specific CAP Canvas site based on their major, if the site is missing from your Canvas Dashboard, current LAVC students can "self enroll" following just a few simple steps.
- Click on the names below to expand the section.
- After identifying the correct CAP, within that section, follow the instructions to join your appropriate Canvas Site.
- We recommend only joining the CAP Canvas site that corresponds to your major. In other words, you should only join ONE Canvas site.
