Who is eligible for the Promise at Los Angeles Valley College?
Students who graduated from high school (regardless of graduation date), are California residents or non-residents eligible for in-state tuition fees (under AB 540), and have not completed any college credit (except for college classes taken while in high school) are eligbile for the Promise. Returning community college students are eligible for the Promise if they have not taken any classes during the last two semesters, never enrolled in a four-year university/college, earned a certificate, AA, BA., etc. Please email promise@lavc.edu for information.
Does the Promise at Los Angeles Valley College cover fees for summer or winter classes?
No.The Promise at Los Angeles Valley College covers course fees for the fall and spring semesters only.
Does the Promise at Los Angeles Valley College cover the health and student representative fees?
Yes. The Promise at Los Angeles Valley College covers the $19 health and $2 student representative fees for the fall and spring semesters.
Does the Promise at Los Angeles Valley College cover the Associated Student Organization (ASO) membership fee?
No. All students are responsible for the Associated Student Union (ASU/ASO) membership fee.
What happens if I do not maintain at least a 2.0 GPA in the fall semester?
Students must maintain a 2.0 GPA and enroll in at least 12 course units during their fall and spring semesters (or receive an accommodation of a reduced course load) to remain eligible for the Promise benefits. Only students who drop below a 2.0 GPA or 12 units during their first semester may complete an appeal to maintain their Promise status during their second semester.
