Opening Reception for "Carriers" Exhibition with Artist Alexandria Douziech
Wednesday, September 18, 2024
The LAVC Art Gallery invites you to a reception with artist Alexandria Douziech for her new solo exhibition "Carriers."
"Carriers" is a sculpture and video installation that pays tribute to the overlooked women who constitute nearly half of the global agricultural workforce. Drawing inspiration from industrial cargo nets and traditional knitting techniques, a 15’x30’ net made from rice, wheat, corn, sugarcane, soy, palm, banana, pineapple, coconut, sorghum, hemp, and flax fibers will be suspended in the LAVC gallery this fall. Eliciting a topographic landscape, the net—along with an accompanying video work—will invite viewers to contemplate how these far-reaching crops continue to sustain the world while depleting lands and exploiting peoples.
The reception is open to all current and prospective students, faculty, staff and the general public.
The exhibition runs from September 16 - October 18, 2024.
Date & Time: Wednesday, September 18 from 12-2 p.m.
Location: Art Gallery in the Art Building (view map)
