Community Health Worker (CHW) Training In Person

No Experience Necessary - Entry Level Job - Excellent Career

The 6 week in-person certificate program trains community members and students to work as a CHW in their respective communities. Community Health Workers are trusted frontline public health workers that serve as a link between health services, social services, and the community while helping chronically ill older adults and others access medical and social services. They focus on establishing trust in communities and improving quality of life for those in need. There is a high demand for CHWs in California.

Dates

Monday, July 1st - Thursday, August 8th

Monday and Wednesday 9am - 2:30pm

Tuesday and Thursday 9am - 12:00pm 

(Job Fair on Tuesday, August 13th, 10am-12pm)

During the 6 weeks, students will have the opportunity to complete the 3 required courses for the Community Health Worker Certificate of Completion. Students who enroll in the 6-week program will also be participating in job readiness training and workshops to prepare students for a career fair in August!

We will be hosting an Orientation on Friday, June 28th from 10 am-11 am in Room ACA 2505 to provide more information for those of you participating in this training.

The schedule will be as follows:

 

Monday-Thursday 9 am-12:00 pm

9 am-12 pm:

· Class: VOC ED 554CE: Community Health Workers I (July 1st-July 21st)

· Class: VOC ED 555CE: Community Health Workers II (July 22nd-August 11th)

12 pm-12:30 pm: Lunch Break

Monday & Wednesday 12:30 pm-2:30 pm

Training and Workshops on the following topics:

· Resume writing

· Cover letter writing

· Job search

· Interview skills

· Work readiness skills

· Elevator speech and mock interviews

Tuesday, August 13th, 10 am-12 pm

Students who successfully complete the classes and attend the trainings/workshops will be invited to attend the Job Fair to meet CHW employers from the Greater Los Angeles area. Students must be able to legally work in the United States.

 

To earn the Community Health Worker Certificate of Completion, students must enroll in the following 3 classes and earn a “P” (passing) grade in each of them.*
