Welcome to the Los Angeles Valley College Health Science Department. We offer award-winning programs in Nursing and Respiratory Therapy. If you are a compassionate, responsible person who seeks a care-giving career in the medical field that offers personal reward and financial stability, Nursing or Respiratory Therapy are viable options.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), "employment of healthcare occupations is projected to grow 19 percent from 2014 to 2024, much faster than the average for all occupations, adding about 2.3 million new jobs. Healthcare occupations will add more jobs than any other group of occupations."
The Registered Nursing Program at Los Angeles Valley College began as a UCLA School of Nursing project on July 1, 1959. Our Nursing Program is approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing (CABRN) and accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).
LAVC Respiratory Therapy Program Began in 1974 and was accredited by the Committee of Accreditation of Respiratory Care (CoARC). In addition to offering an Associate Degree in Respiratory Therapy, LAVC was approved to start the Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Care program (BSRT), set to begin in fall 2024.
