The Computer Applications and Office Technologies (CAOT) discipline prepares students for entry-level and advance positions in a variety of office occupations. Students learn how to use computer software applications and office procedures to solve problems in modern-day business/office environments. The CAOT program also emphasizes the development of critical-thinking, communication, and writing skills.

The mission of the CAOT discipline at Los Angeles Valley College is to provide students with the knowledge and skills they need to be successful in today's competitive job market. The program is designed to prepare students for a variety of office careers, including: Administrative and Office Assistant, Bookkeeper and Accounting Clerk, Data Entry Clerk, Office Manager, and Software and Web Support Technician

CAOT graduates are in high demand due to the increasing reliance of businesses on technology. CAOT graduates can find entry-level positions in many different types of offices, and they can also advance to more senior positions with experience. CAOT graduates can find employment in a variety of industries, including: Business, Education, Government, Nonprofit , Health Care, Hospitality Retail, and Technology.

CAOT  Certificate in administrative Assistant  is a short-term program that prepares students for entry-level positions as administrative assistants. The certificate typically covers the same core topics as an associate's degree in administrative assistant, but in less depth. This can be a good option for students who are already working and need to upgrade their skills quickly, or for students who are not sure if they want to commit to a two-year degree program.

Here are some of the topics that are typically covered in a certificate in administrative assistant in CAOT program:

  • Computer applications: Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and other productivity software
  • Office procedures: filing, data entry, correspondence, and customer service
  • Business communication: writing and speaking effectively in a professional setting
  • Office management: budgeting, scheduling, and managing resources
  • Human resources: basic HR principles and procedures

Administrative Assistant  (Certificate)

CAOT Associate of Arts (AA) in Administrative Assistant  is a two-year degree that prepares students for entry-level jobs in administrative support roles. The program typically covers a wide range of topics, including:

  • Computer applications: Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and other productivity software
  • Office procedures: filing, data entry, correspondence, and customer service
  • Business communication: writing and speaking effectively in a professional setting
  • Accounting and financial management: basic accounting principles and financial reporting

Administrative Assistant  (AA Degree)

The certificate in Computer Applications Specialist (CAOT) is a short-term program that prepares students for entry-level positions as computer applications specialists. Students who pursue this option will gain a good knowledge and understanding of the automated office environment and will be prepared for positions such as: Internet Support Specialist; Office Assistant; Administrative Assistant; Office Systems Support Specialist; or Computer Applications Specialist. Students will develop knowledge and skills in word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation, and electronic accounting software applications.

CAOT Associate of Arts (AA) in Administrative

An Associate of Arts in Computer Applications Specialist in CAOT (Computer Applications and Office Technology) is a two-year degree program that prepares students for entry-level positions as computer applications specialists. Students who pursue this option will gain a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the automated office environment and will be prepared for positions such as: Internet Specialist; Executive Assistant; Administrative Assistant; Office Systems Specialist; or Computer Applications Specialist. Students will develop knowledge and skills in word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation, and electronic accounting software applications.

Computer Applications Specialist (AA Degree)

 

The Certificate  in Computerized Bookkeeping in CAOT is a short-term program that prepares students for entry-level bookkeeping positions. The certificate typically covers the following topics: Introduction to bookkeeping, Accounting principles and procedures, Computerized accounting software, Payroll accounting, Accounts receivable and payable, and Financial reporting. 

Students in the certificate program will learn how to use computerized accounting software to record and process financial transactions, prepare financial statements, and manage payroll. They will also learn about basic accounting principles and procedures, such as journalizing, posting, and adjusting entries.

Computerized Bookkeeping (Certificate)

The Certificate in General Office Assistant in CAOT is a short-term program that prepares students for entry-level Office  assistant positions.

The General Office Certificate prepares students for positions in a variety of office settings. This Certificate includes courses in rapid and accurate keyboarding, document editing and formatting, word processing, English skills for the office, records management, general office procedures, and an overview of spreadsheet and presentation software applications. Emphasis is placed on the development of keyboarding and language skills to prepare business documents and perform general office tasks. Completion of this program prepares students to qualify for entry-level office positions such as general office workers, clerk-typist, word processors, and office assistants.
