Distance Education Certification

The following Distance Education policies were
passed by the Shared Governance Committees

In accordance with Article 40b, 5 of Local AFT 1521, faculty who are preparing to teach online/hybrid  courses at the college for the first time must demonstrate proficiency in DL instructional delivery methods.
DE Certification can be achieved  by:

  • Faculty who were not DE certified prior to the start of the Spring 2020 semester must successfully pass both the “Intro to Teaching with Canvas” and the “Intro to Online Teaching”. These courses are moderated by LAVC and LACCD facilitators. A minimum score of 90% is required for each course. Each course may take up to 40 hours.

Standardized Learning Management System for Hybrid and
Online Classes

Beginning summer 2016, all hybrid and online classes at LAVC will use Canvas as the Learning Management System.. (Passed by Academic Senate March 2016.)
