Instructor Beginning of Semester Checklist

LACCD External Tools Approval Process
As of May 29, 2020, all requests for external tools and apps must be approved by LACCD.

For Future Integration Requests
Please make sure you allow plenty of time for integration requests. You can speed up the process by providing your college DE Coordinator with the Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT) for the tool (this can be requested from the company support team or your publisher representative). Your DE Coordinator will contact the district and update you about the review process. The good news is that we are ensuring that all students have equitable access to learning materials and that we are following the law.

External Tools - LTI
Canvas allows instructors to use external tools to enhance their Canvas course. Before adding an external tool to a course, instructors should complete a request form

Equally Effective Alternative Access Plan (EEAAP)
The EEAP provides a brief process to identify the learning outcomes that tools fail to support for students with disabilities and provide a framework for a plan to assist these students in their learning through an alternative, but equally effective manner.

The Alternative Access Planning section will require you to look at the areas in the VPAT that do not meet, partially meet or meet with exceptions and determine if those components of the software are being used to meet objectives.

  • If they are not being used, please provide that information.
  • If they are being used, please provide the plan to meet the learning outcomes for students for whom the software is inaccessible.

Examples could include alternative access to the information or use of student tutors to support use of the software.

Please note, only ONE EEAAP is needed for each software request.
Please use the discipline committee or department infrastructure to support a single form. This will expedite the process and ensure there is no duplicative work needed.
