Construction & Parking Updates

The following construction projects are currently taking place at Los Angeles Valley College:

Sidewalk Closures Around Gyms, Planetarium, Math/Science, and EST

LAVC faculty, staff, and students should of sidewalk replacements around the North and South Gyms, EST, Math/Sciences, and Planetarium buildings. Construction activities are scheduled to begin on Monday, February 15, 2021 and will continue through Thursday, July 8, 2021. During construction, the sidewalks and entries adjacent to the work areas will be closed.

Sidewalk Closures Around Gyms, Planetarium, Math/Science, and EST

This work is part of the TAI Phase 2 Site Work Improvements project. Read the LAVC Construction Notification - TAI Phase 2 Work Areas [PDF].

The projects and areas affected are as follows:

  • Replacement of sidewalk between Math/Science Building and Planetarium.
  • Replacement of Sidewalk, Asphalt, and Door Entry Ramps at Northeast corner of North Gym.
  • Replacement of Sidewalk and Asphalt at South East Corner of South Gym.
  • Installation of Sidewalk along Northside of Campus Way between EST Building and South Gym.
  • Rework of Pedestrian Ramps at North and South Loading Zones adjacent to Community Services Center.

The sidewalks and entries adjascent to work areas will be closed, and there will also be construction related equipment noise in the area. Work will be occurring between 6:00 am and 3:00 pm.

Work is expected to be completed by July 8, 2021.

Partial Closure of Lot B Parking Area until 5/31/2021

LAVC faculty, staff, and students should be aware of construction activities that will continue through May 31, 2021 and will result in the partial closure of Parking Lot B and will limit access to Campus Drive.

Partial Closure of Lot B Parking Area until 5/31/2021

Parking Lot B will be partially closed and access to Campus Drive will be limited until Monday, May 31, 2021 due to construction services. These services will consist of asphalt demolition, grading, new concrete, and asphalt paving. There will be construction equipment noise associated with this project.

This work is part of the Valley Academic and Cultural Center (VACC) project. Read the Valley Academic and Cultural Center Construction Notification #48 with diagram [PDF].

Temporary Sidewalk Closures Near Music and Theater Arts

LAVC faculty, staff and students should be aware of sidewalk closures effecting Music Building & Theatre Arts from December 9, 2019-January 17, 2020. The closed sidewalks include south of the Music building east entrance, south of Music building between the Motion Picture Studio, east side of Motion Picture Studio, and east side of the Omega Data Center. Directional signage will be placed to route student traffic during this period.

Starting December 9, 2019, there are sidewalk closures effecting Music & Theatre Arts buildings. Directional signage will be placed to route student traffic during this period.

This work is part of the Energy Infrastructure Improvements (EII) project. Read the EII Construction Notification #14 with diagram [PDF].

The sidewalk closures are located:

  • south of the Music building east entrance,
  • south of Music building between the Motion Picture Studio,
  • east side of Motion Picture Studio, and
  • east side of the Omega Data Center.

There will also be construction related equipment noise in the area. 

Work is expected to be completed by January 17, 2020.

Closure of Lot H, Quad Park, and Bungalows 45-47, 50-52, and 48-49 in Preparation for the Energy Infrastructure Improvement Project

LAVC faculty, staff and students should be aware that Lot H, the Quad Park, and Bungalows 45-47, 50-52, and 48-49 will be closed starting on December 6, 2018 and fencing is being installed as part of the Energy Infrastructure Improvements (EII) project. The EII project includes the demolition of Bungalows 45-47 and 50-52 in preparation for the construction of the Thermal Energy Storage Tank (TES), equipment upgrades in the Central Plant, and construction of underground piping for the north loop located at the north end of Monarch Square.

Starting on Thursday, December 6, mobilization will begin for the Energy Infrastructure Improvement (EII) project. The project includes the demolition of Bungalows 45-47 and 50-52 in preparation for the construction of the Thermal Energy Storage Tank (TES), equipment upgrades in the Central Plant, and construction of underground piping for the north loop located at the north end of Monarch Square.

Construction fencing will be erected around Lot H, the Quad Park, and Bungalows 45-47, 50-52, and 48-49. Pedestrian access into the campus will be available on the west side of Lot H as illustrated on this diagram [JPG].

In addition, Lot H will be used for contractor's offices, parking and lay down, and will be closed to campus parking during the duration of the project.

Closure of Southern Portion of Bungalows in preparation for the Bungalow Removal Project

LAVC students, faculty and staff should be aware that the campus bungalows along Burbank Boulevard are permanently closed as of August 23, 2018. New fencing has been installed around groups of bungalows until they are demolished. There are designated pedestrian pathways through the area to allow for pedestrian access into the campus from Burbank Boulevard and from Parking Lot H.

In preparation for an upcoming Bungalow Removal Project, most of the bungalows along Burbank Boulevard have been permanently closed. 

The new fencing has been installed around groups of bungalows until they are demolished. There are designated pedestrian pathways through the area to allow for pedestrian access into the campus from Burbank Boulevard and from Parking Lot H, as illustrated on the LAVC Campus Map.

In addition, College Sheriff personnel will continue to patrol the area. If you see any suspicious activity, please report it to the LAVC Sheriff's Office at (818) 947-2433.

Installation of the Valley Academic and Cultural Center Construction Fencing, Permanent Closure of Parking Lot C & Restriping of Parking Lot B 

LAVC faculty, staff and students should be aware that activities related to the construction of the new Valley Academic and Cultural Center (VACC) begins on September 10, 2016. Parking Lot B will be restriped to delete parking stalls and create a east-west roadway in the lot, and new construction fencing for the VACC project will be installed, and Parking Lot C will permanently close.

Starting Saturday, September 10, activities related to the construction of the new Valley Academic and Cultural Center (VACC) will begin.

Parking Lot B will be restriped to delete parking stalls and create a east-west roadway in the lot. In addition, new construction fencing for the VACC project will be installed, and Parking Lot C will permanently close. In Parking lot B, a number of parking stalls will be removed, and a new vehicle access lane will be striped to create a new two-lane vehicle pathway north of a new temporary construction fence starting September 10.

Following that, new construction fencing will be installed that will permanently close Lot C, and the current pedestrian pathways between the Music Building and Campus Drive to Parking Lot B will not be accessible. New paths will be identified / added to facilitate pedestrian traffic around the construction site. Please refer to this map [JPG].
