Hawkinson Memorial Scholarship: Awarded to a deserving mathematics student, this scholarship is made possible through the William A. Hawkinson Endowment.
Scholarship Amount: $300
Requirements:
· Applicant must be currently enrolled at LAVC.
· Must have completed Math 261/265, Math 262/266 and Math 263/267 at LAVC.
· Must have completed or currently enrolled in Math 270 or Math 275 at LAVC.
Sadanand Iyer Memorial Scholarship: Retired Mathematics Professor Kala Iyer established this scholarship in memory of her father, Sadanand, who was a distinguished Professor of Mathematics in India. While he was born in poverty and could not afford books, he established himself as a mathematical genius and taught at the graduate level from the early age of 22.
Scholarship Amount: $250
Requirements:
· Applicant must be currently enrolled at LAVC.
· Must have minimum overall GPA of 3.5 and most recent term minimum GPA of 3.5.
· Must have completed a minimum of 25-56 units.
· Must have completed Math 261/265 and Math 262/266 with a 3.7 GPA in math classes, and a current enrollment in Calculus III with an A standing.
· Essay (200-250 words, typewritten) describing financial need.
Glen Paget Math Teacher Scholarship: Retired Math Instructor Glen Paget established this scholarship to benefit a LAVC Student who is majoring in Mathematics with a serious intention to become a Mathematics teacher.
Scholarship Amount: $500
Requirements:
· Applicant must be currently enrolled at LAVC.
· Must have a minimum overall GPA of 3.0.
· Must have completed 25 to 56 semester units.
· Must be a Mathematics Major.
· Completion or current enrollment in Math 261/265.
· Letter of recommendation from a member of the LAVC Faculty.
· Essay (200-250 words, typewritten) describing your path to becoming a Math Instructor
Leon Marzillier Math Scholarship: Retired Math Professor Leon Marzillier worked in LACCD for 36 years not just as math professor, but also Academic Senate President, District Academic Senate President, and Union president. As first-generation college student and immigrant, he worked to promote diversity and student success.
Scholarship Amount: $250
Requirements:
· Applicant must be currently enrolled at LAVC.
· Completed or currently taking Math 261/265 or Math 262/266 at LAVC.
· Completed or currently taking Math 227 at LAVC.
· Must have completed at least one100-level course at LAVC.
Math Department Scholarships: Awarded to deserving mathematics students, made possible through the Math Department Scholarship Fund.
Scholarship Amount: $250 to $500 (4 or more awards)
Requirements:
· Applicant must be currently enrolled at LAVC.
· Completed a Math class in current school year.
· Completed Math 262/266 at LAVC by Fall of the current academic year.
· Completed or currently taking courses beyond Math 262/266 with a grade or standing of A or B
