The Valley Star named Best College Newspaper by the Los Angeles Press Club

Congratulations to The Valley Star, LAVC's student-run newspaper, for being named as the “Best College Newspaper” by the Los Angeles Press Club at the 63rd annual Southern California Journalism Awards. It also won the and winning third place for “Best College News Website.” The Valley Star won first place over a dozen other community college and four-year undergraduate and graduate institutions. Reminder—Get Vaccinated or Request an Exemption before November 19

Effective October 15, 2021, the District is providing a grace period for compliance with the vaccine mandate, Board Policy 2900:

Students have until 5 p.m., Friday, November 19, 2021 to provide proof of vaccination or submit an exemption, and complete a baseline test.

Zumba Workshop

Join certified Zumba Instructor Ana Lopez in person in the Student Union (2nd floor) and via zoom for a basic Zumba Total Workout, combining all elements of fitness - cardio, muscle conditioning, balance, and flexibility, boosted energy. Great Wall of Los Angeles Walking Tour

Ever wonder about the mural along Coldwater Canyon? The Great Wall of Los Angeles by Judith F. Baca serves as a public monument and testament to the contributions of California's marginalized ethnic groups, depicting these histories from prehistoric times to the 1950s. COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic

LAVC is partnering with Fulgent Genetics to hold an on-campus COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic for students, employees and the public to get the vaccine or booster/third dose. No appointment needed; all three vaccines options will be available. Plus, LAVC students and employees who get vaccinated at this event will receive a $150 gift card to the LAVC Bookstore.

Art is Good for You: Levi Ponce Lecture and Workshop Series

Wednesday, November 10 at 12 p.m. on Zoom

Born and raised in Los Angeles, Levi Ponce has been painting murals since childhood. Using lessons from both his original teacher, his father, as well as the lessons he learned while earning his B.A. in fine art, Levi sees his walls as so much more than paint. Inspired by the city he grew up in, he sees each piece as a community project designed to bring together other artists, organizations, and even the passersby as stakeholders. Together, they transform the neighborhoods where they are found, shining light on inspiring people important to the community, as well as relevant issues.
