Daily News Readers’ Choice “Best” Awards goes to Academic Resource Center!

We are happy to announce that LA Valley College has been awarded a TOTAL of THREE Daily News Readers’ Choice “Best” Awards this year! We were named as Best Trade School, Best Nursing Program, and Best Tutoring by the readers of the LA Daily News for 2021. In addition, our very own Monarch Camps was named Best Kids Camp.

Meet Our Amazing Math Tutor SVYTAOSLAV “SLAVA” ERMOLAEV

Slava has been a math lab and embedded tutor for 2 years at Valley College. He is currently an embedded tutor for Math 270 (Linear Algebra) and Math 275 (Differential Equation).

When Slava first began attending LAVC in 2018, he did not know what major he wanted to pursue. Having been good in math and science in high school, he decided to take a variety of scientific classes. After a great progress and success, he discovered his joy for chemistry and physics. Math, being a fundamental prerequisite for these subjects, became his third language after Russian and English. he learned math to understand and to describe natural phenomena.

Ayana Franklin has always lived in LA, and she just transferred from LAVC to attend UCLA. She can’t imagine being anywhere else in the world, and she wouldn’t have gotten into UCLA if it weren’t for the resources at LAVC.

Meet Our Amazing Math Tutor Erik Arutyunyan

Erik Arutyunyan has been an excellent and valuable math tutor for 5 years at Academic Resource Center Math Lab. He has had a total of 201 tutoring sessions, and he received the highest number of evaluations from tutees in fall semester of 2020. One tutee praised that "he is a fantastic tutor! He really understands the concepts and how to simply them for students. I now have a clear understanding of the problems we discussed thanks to his helpful explanations."

Kimberly O. Brings Her Passion and Experience to the Students at the Writing Center

Graduating with a bachelor’s degree in English Subject Matter in 2016 and an English Literature master’s degree in 2019 from California State University, Northridge, Kimberly has found herself expanding her educational horizons by taking classes at Los Angeles Valley College. Being involved with higher education for over a decade as a student, tutor, and even as a professor, Kimberly has found that the experience a student has in the beginning of their education impacts their higher education experiences.
