What is the OEI initiative?
The Online Education Initiative (OEI) is a collaborative effort among California Community Colleges (CCCs) to ensure that significantly more students are able to complete their educational goals by increasing both access to and success in high-quality online courses. It represents a comprehensive and collaborative program that leverages best practices and technology to significantly increase the opportunity for higher education degree attainment in California.

The OEI is sponsored by the Foothill-De Anza Community College District, in partnership with the Butte-Glenn Community College District and its CCC Technology Center at Butte College as recipients of a five-year grant disbursed by the California Community College Chancellor’s Office (CCCCO).

What is Canvas?
Canvas is a cloud-native learning platform and learning management system. It is the course management system selected by the OEI. In Canvas' own words... "Canvas is the 21st Century LMS. Adaptable. Reliable. Customizable. Easy to use. Mobile. Time-saving. And, perhaps most importantly, it gets used. That’s because it’s designed to get out of your way, to let you do your thing. Every last feature, every last interface is crafted to save you time and effort and to make teaching and learning easier."

When will we be adopting Canvas?
In the summer session of 2016, LAVC joined the Online Education Initiative for the State of California.  As part of the OEI, the campus will transition to the Canvas LMS. ETUDES will no longer be the campus LMS.
