Past Opportunities


Valley College Students:

These following scholarships opportunities are available to all students currently enrolled at Los Angeles Valley college. Each scholarship has its own requirements, as stated below.


Return application Wednesday March 14, 2018 by 4:00pm to the LAVC Foundation Office located in ACA Building Room 2201

Math Department Scholarship

Description: This scholarship is awarded to deserving mathematics students, scholarships made possible through the Math Department Scholarship Fund.

Amount: $250-$500 awarded to 5 people


-Currently enrolled at LAVC

-Unofficial copy of LACCD transcript.

-Completed Math 262/266 by fall semester of current school year at LAVC

-Completed a math class successfully in current school year

-Preference will be given to students who completed courses beyond Math 262/266 with a grade of A or B

Sadanand Iyer Memorial Scholarship

Description: Mathematics Professor Kayla established this scholarship in memory of her father, Sadanand, who was a distinguished professor of mathematics in India. 

Amount: $250 awarded to one person


-Currently enrolled at LAVC

-Unofficial copy of LACCD transcript

-Must have minimum overall GPA of 3.0

-Completed Math 261/265 and Math 262/266

-Write a 250-word-type-written essay demonstrating financial need, and career aspirations in the STEM fields.

Hawkinson Memorial Scholarship 

Description: Awarded to a deserving mathematics student, this scholarship is made possible through the William A. Hawkinson Endowment.

Amount: $300 awarded to one person


-Must provide unofficial copy of LACCD transcript

-Must have completed Math 261/265, 262/266, and 263/267

-Must have minimum GPA of 3.0 in the criteria courses 

-Must have completed or be currently enrolled in Math 270 or Math 275

Leon Marziller Math Scholarship

Description: Leon Marzillier worked in the LACCD for 36 years. He was a professor of math at Valley College. During his tenure he served as department chair, the LAVC Academic Senate President, the District Academic Senate President, and the Union president. He is an immigrant and part of the first generation of his family to attend college. He worked to promote diversity
and student success.

Amount: $250 awarded to one student


-Must provide unofficial copy of LACCD transcript.

-Completed Math 261/265 or Math 262/266 at Valley College

-Completed or currently taking Math 227 at Valley College;

-Must have completed 100-level math courses at Valley College
