Professional Development Advisory Committee

The Professional Development Advisory Committee (a subcommittee of the Academic Senate) plans professional development offerings based on the evaluation of needs and outcomes assessments. We determine which activities qualify for flex credit and the number of hours allowed. We meet on the third Thursday of the month from 12-1 pm in the PDC (LARC 200). Lunch is provided if you RSVP.

Meeting dates TBA

Summary of advisory committee decisions on flex
Flex should involve extra work beyond expected job duties — grading papers does not qualify.
Based on faculty requests, we agreed to grant the following hours for activities:

  • Conferences = maximum of 6.7 hours per day
  • Additional committee service = a maximum of 6.7 hours per semester (except hiring, evaluation, or ad hoc task forces = number of hours served, up to a maximum of 6.7)
  • Service Learning = 3 hours per class
  • TAP (honors) classes = 6.7 hours per class
  • Flex credit is not given for attending social events (e.g., the Dean's Reception, the Winter Holiday luncheon).

See the PD planning worksheet for a more complete list of acceptable activities.
