About the Media Arts Department of Los Angeles Valley College

Located in the heart of the Southern California entertainment industry, LA Valley College (LAVC) offers programs in traditional and digital media arts technology. Students can earn an Associate Degree in Broadcasting or Cinema. Occupational Certificates are available in motion pictures, radio and/or television (in performance or production), and digital media production. New options in the Media Arts Certificate are: screenwriting, directing, producing, and post-production. Regular classroom and lab/workshop activities are enhanced with field trips, industry seminars, and internship opportunities with local companies.

CameramanMany students transfer successfully to four-year colleges. Others go directly into the industry. LAVC students have worked on features, television programs, music videos, commercials, animation series, and documentaries.

The Cinema and Broadcasting Disciplines were combined into a new Media Arts Department at LA Valley College in 2000, and right away starting developing new curricula using evolving digital technologies and creating a new Media Arts discipline, while also using that name for the three-discipline department.

Take a look at the course and program descriptions on this website to see if Valley College Media Arts can be your next step into a career in the entertainment industry.
