Final Week & Closing Reception for LAVC Art Gallery's MAKE/WORK Exhibit!

The Los Angeles Valley College (LAVC) Art Gallery is pleased to present an art exhibition titled "MAKE/WORK" from March 19-April 26 in the LAVC Art Gallery in the Art Building.

This exhibition is produced in collaboration with the LAVC student body and five nationally recognized artists. Contributors to this project include Roy Dowell, Dahlia Elsayed, Adam D. Miller, Renee Petropoulos, and Robert Yoder.

Using the wall drawings of Sol LeWitt as a launching off point, MAKE/WORK questions the role of artist and laborer and establishes a scenario where language and interpretation challenge ideas and execution. Five artists have been invited to submit work in the form of directions.

Over the course of the exhibition run, LAVC students and faculty will produce their works according to the guidelines provided. Ranging from the most highly detailed to the very wide open, the artists’ instructions utilize specific standard measurements, custom stencils, the sun as a mapping device, and the body as ruler.

Viewers will have the opportunity to watch this exhibition unfold over time. Open work sessions will be held for those wishing to take part in the making of these works, and sessions are free and open to the public.

Open work sessions are available on weekdays between March 26-April 25 (except for non-instruction days and holidays):

The completed temporal works will be celebrated with a closing reception on Thursday, April 26 from 6-8 p.m. in the LAVC Art Gallery. A commissioned essay by Los Angeles based writer and critic Travis Diehl will also be available as a downloadable pdf at a later date.

The MAKE/WORK exhibition is located in the LAVC Art Gallery in the Art building. View campus map.  The regular Art Gallery hours are Monday from 11 a.m.-3:30 p.m., Tuesday from 3-6 p.m., Wednesday from 11 a.m.-3:30 p.m., Thursday from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. and 6-9 p.m., and by appointment. The LAVC Art gallery is closed on holidays, when classes are not in session, and when the campus is closed. Admission is free and the exhibition is open to the public.
