LAVC Speech Team Wins Team Bronze and 3 Individual Golds at the National Championships

Congratulations to the LAVC Speech Team for earning a team bronze medal, 3 individual gold medals, 1 individual silver medal, and 12 individual bronze medals at the 2017 Phi Rho Pi National Speech Competition near Washington D.C. In addition, team member Maia Gaboian was honored with the Warren-Dahlin Student Fellowship Award.

Congratulations to LAVC Adjunct Assistant Professor Nancy Shiffrin for having her poetry published in the upcoming Altadena Poetry Review: Anthology 2017. She will read her newly published poetry at the book's "Poetry and Cookies Celebration" publication party on April 29 from 1-4 p.m. at the Altadena Public Library.

Dr. Douglas Marriott has been named as the new Dean of Adult/Community Education & Workforce Development at LAVC. In this new role, he will advance the Adult Education initiatives on campus, oversee Workforce Training and the Cooperative Education Center, and work directly with the CalWORKs/GAIN and Technology departments.

LAVC President Endrijonas Named Pioneer Woman of the Year

Congratulations to LAVC President Dr. Erika Endrijonas on being recognized as the "2017 Pioneer Woman of the Year" by LA City Councilmember Paul Krekorian. She was honored as a leader who champions gender equity in the city.

LAVC Speech Team Brings Home the CCCFA State Championship!
LAVC Speech Team Brings Home the CCCFA State Championship!

Congrats to the LAVC Speech and Debate Team on winning the state championship award (called the Jim Miller Perpetual Sweepstakes Award) at the California Community College Forensic Association's 2017 State Tournament. In addition, the team won a total of 6 gold individual medals, 1 silver individual medals and 9 bronze individual medals at the tournament.

LAVC Student Union Receives an AISC National Award

Congrats to LAVC's Student Union (Monarch Center construction project) on receiving the American Institute of Steel Construction's 2017 IDEAS² National Award for innovative use of structural steel. It was one of 11 steel frame structures to receive this national recognition.

Monarch Memo—Men's Swimming Wins WSC Meet #2

Congrats to Men's Swimming on its team win and to Women's Swimming on its fourth place finish at the WSC Meet #2 at Valley. This week, Softball plays San Bernardino in a home double header on March 21 at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., and Baseball plays LA Mission on home turf on March 25 at 1 p.m. Go Monarchs!
