Monarch Memo—Exciting Finishes for Baseball; Monarchs Home Games This Week

Congrats to Men's Baseball on its recent wins over West L.A. at the bottom of the 10th inning, and beating Bakersfield at the bottom of the 9th! This week, Women's Softball plays at home against Mission on March 6 at 2:30 p.m. and then L.A. Mission on March 8 at 2:30 p.m. in the Softball field.

Monarch Memo—Rebecca Islas and Coach Hang Named WSC-East's Player of Year and Coach of Year

Congratulations to Women's Basketball's Rebecca Islas for being named as the Western State Conference East Division's most valuable player, and to Coach Monica Hang for being selected the conference's Coach of the Year. This is the fourth time Coach Hang has received this accolade.

LAVC's Strengthening Working Families is a 2018 Bellwether Award Finalist

Congratulations to LAVC's Strengthening Working Families project for being named one of the top 10 community college workforce development programs in the nation out of 1,200 applicants. It was recognized with a 2018 Bellwether Finalist Award in the workforce development category.

The Arbor Day Foundation honored L.A. Valley College with a 2017 Tree Campus USA® recognition. The Tree Campus USA program honors colleges and universities and their leaders for promoting healthy trees and engaging students and staff in the spirit of conservation.

Congratulations to Women's Basketball for their win over Barstow, and Softball on their two double header victories over College of the Desert. Come cheer on the Monarchs at home this week...Baseball plays Oxnard on February 13 at 2 p.m., Softball on February 13 at 3 p.m., and Women's and Men's Basketball on February 14 at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Congrats to Baseball, Men's Basketball, and Women's Basketball for their victory sweep last weekend. Come cheer on Men's Baseball as it plays Antelope Valley at home on February 8 at 2 p.m. and February 10 at 12 p.m., and Softball in its home double header vs. College of the Desert on February 10 at 11 a.m. & 1 p.m.

LAVC Welcomes Elliott Coney, Black Scholars Counselor

Elliott Coney has joined the LAVC Black Scholars program as its new Counselor. He will meet with students for educational planning and coordinate campus efforts to connect students in the program with existing resources.

Guardian Scholars Receives a $25,000 Pritzker Grant

Congratulations to the LAVC Guardian Scholars program on recieving a $25,000 grant from the Pritzker Family Foundation. The funds through the Pritzker Foster Care Initiative will be used to help support current and former foster youth on campus.

LAVC Named a 2018 Bellwether Award Finalist
LAVC Named a 2018 Bellwether Award Finalist

Congrats to LA Valley College's Strengthening Working Families project for being one of 10 community college programs nationwide to be named a finalist for a prestigious 2018 Bellwether Award in the category of Workforce Development. LAVC has been invited to present at the Community Colleges Futures Assembly in Lake Buena Vista, Florida in January 2018, where the winners will be announced.
