As of March 11, 2020, there are no confirmed cases of coronavirus or COVID-19 involving any LACCD student or employee, including at LAVC. All LACCD colleges are open, and all business operations are normal. Health officials continue to stay the risk remains low in LA County.

LAVC Partners with Good+Foundation to Support Student Parents

Los Angeles Valley College has established a new partnership with the Good+Foundation to receive donations that help support student parents at Los Angeles Valley College. The LAVC Family Resource Center and the LAVC Workforce Training Academies are the first community college programs that the Good+Foundation, which was established by Jessica Seinfeld, has supported with its donations.

Michael Powelson, adjunct assistant professor of History, LAVC, has recently published Swindlers All: A Brief History of Government Business Frauds from Alexander Hamilton to AIG. The book chronicles some of the government and business frauds carried out throughout US history.

Free or Low Cost Textbooks Classes at LAVC!

LAVC is offering 270+ classes with "zero textbook cost" or "low textbook cost" for students this Fall! Zero Textbook Cost classes uses free, online course materials, and Low Textbook Cost classes have textbooks that are $50 or less. To find these classes, search the online Schedule of Classes by "Class search type" and select "zero cost textbook classes (OER)" or "low cost textbook classes".

LACCD Chancellor Francisco Rodriguez is forwarding Dr. Barry Gribbons for the approval of the LACCD Board of Trustees to serve as the next LAVC President. The Trustees will consider and approve his appointment at the Board’s August 7, 2019 meeting.

LAVC Foundation Received $500,000 Donation from Joan A. Payden

Los Angeles philanthropist Joan A. Payden has donated $500,000 to the LAVC Foundation's Steinway Piano Campaign in honor of her deceased brother William Payden, who was a faculty member and Journalism department chair at LA Valley College. In recognition of the gift, the Mainstage Theater in the forthcoming LAVC Valley Academic and Cultural Center will be renamed as the William R. Payden Theater.

Two LAVC Students Receive the Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship
Two LAVC Students Receive the Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship

Congratulations to LAVC students Diana Castro and Alexander Richardson for being awarded the 2019 Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship. This prestigious, highly competitive national scholarship was awarded to only 61 students nationwide. The scholarship will provide them with up to $40,000 annually for a maximum of three years to complete their bachelor’s degree. Diana Castro is preparing to transfer to UCLA and plans to study World Arts & Culture. Alexander Richardson will be majoring in Astrophysics.
