Congrats to the LAVC Above & Beyond and Apple Awards Recipients!

LAVC recognized its employee's years of service, new employees, retirees and tentured faculty, and presented the 2016 Above and Beyond Award winners to Fatema Baldiala, Meghan Gaynor Cason, Michelle Fowles, Larry Nakamura, Alex Ojeda, Ellie Rabani, and Hector Salazar! LAVC's TAE Honors Club also awarded its 2016 Apple Awards to Michael Arshagouni, Jessica Glick, Lucas Haley, and Tiffany Lanoix. Congratulations!

Amari Williams, one of LAVC's newest Research Analyst, has joined the LAVC Institutional Effectiveness Office. He will assist with preparing reports and analysis to support institutional planning and decision-making, and help monitor and evaluate the LAVC Student Equity Plan.

Introducing Bank Mobile Vibe! Your Higher One Account becomes Bank Mobile Vibe

Financial aid disbursements will transition from Higher One to Bank Mobile Vibe on June 1, 2016. There is no action required on your part! As of May 4, 2016, you can now get cash off-campus without paying any fees at Allpoint ATM locations located at Target, Target, CVS/Pharmacy, Walgreens, 7-Eleven, and more! In addition, the on-campus ATM location has been moved to the Student Union (next to the Cafeteria).

A Warm Welcome to Sorangel Hernandez—Title V Cooperative Program Director

LAVC welcomes Sorangel Hernandez, the new Program Director for the Title V Cooperative Program at Valley College. She will oversee the 3-campus cooperative program (at LAVC, East LA College, and LA Trade Tech) that is designed to improve retention, persistence, and completion rates of students.

Michelle Lewis to Coordinate LAVC's One Book, One College Program

Michelle Lewis will be the new program coordinator for the new One Book, One College Program at LAVC. Faculty should take the "One Book, One College Survey" to help the college select the book it will be using during the 2016-2017 academic year.

Go Monarchs—Men's Swim Placed 2nd at WSC Championships; Tim Hornyak Heads to State Swim Championship

Congratulations to the Men's Swimming for coming in second overall and to Women's Swimming for its seventh place finish at the WSC Championships. Men's Swim Tim Hornyak is the WSC Champion in the 100 and 200 breaststroke, and is heading to the CCCAA State Championship.

LAVC has been awarded a nearly $1.5 million grant to develop and scale its existing First Year Experience program to ensure that entering students earn degrees and certificates within two years.
