LAVC Speech and Debate Wins 4 Individual Golds and Two Team Silvers at the National Championships!
LAVC Speech and Debate Wins 4 Individual Golds and Two Team Silvers at the National Championships!

The LAVC Speech and Debate Team took home four gold medals, four silver medals, sixteen bronze medals, and two team silver medals at the 2016 Phi Rho Pi National Speech Competition in Costa Mesa, California. In addition, team members Joseph Vaysman and Evan Feldman won the Bossard-Twohy Award for the best parliamentary debate team in the nation and head coach Kevin Briancesco won the Collie-Taylor Fellowship Award for coaches. Congratulations!

Raquel Sanchez is LAVC's new Student Engagement Coordinator in the Office of Student Life. She began her new assignment in February 2016, and is assisting the ASU Advisor and coordinating campus activities that engage students on campus.

Go Monarchs!—Congrats to Men's Swimming Andrew Gianolio. Tim Hornyak and Ken Sasagawa

Men's Swimming's Andrew Gianolio won the 50 free, Tim Hornyak won the 200 IM and 200 breaststroke, Ken Sasagawa came in second in the 200 IM and 200 breaststroke at the WSC Swim Meet #2. The Women's Swimming also had two wins.

LAVC Professor to Speak at CAEYC Conference and Early Childhood Ed Career Symposium

LAVC Child Development Department Chair Elmida Baghdaserians will present a "Bias and Change" workshop with a colleague from UCLA's Early Education program on April 2 at the California Association for Education of Young Children (CAEYC) Conference and Expo in Pasadena. In addition, she will be a panelist on April 16 at a Early Childhood Education (ECE) Career Symposium at CSUN.

Congratulations to the Baseball on winning its first game of a three-game series against College of the Canyons, and to Softball for beating LA Mission and its back-to-back wins in a double-header against Santa Monica.

A group of 130 LAVC athletes showed their "Valley Pride" by helping to pick up trash at the Athletics Department's Spring 2016 Campus Clean-Up event on March 11.

Congratulations to LAVC Speech & Debate—Team Wins at State Championships!
Congratulations to LAVC Speech & Debate—Team Wins at State Championships!

LAVC Speech and Debate Team won 6 gold, 10 silver and 6 bronze medals at the California Community College Forensics Association (CCCFA) Speech and Debate Championships on March 9-13. The team was also recognized as the 4th best overall program in the state. Congratulations!
