Monarch News

Congratulations to the women's basketball. The women's basketball team ended conference with a record of 9-1 and currently have an overall record of 23-6. They are seeded #6 in the playoffs.

Monarch Athletics is mourning the loss of Tim Knappen, who passed away Saturday at his home in Van Nuys. Tim was a lifetime member of the Monarchs' family, having joined the track team in 1968. During his two years, he received national acclaim as a pole vaulter and decathlete, setting records that continue unbroken today. He would go on to Arizona State University, before returning to the school he loved to both work and coach. In 2012, the college recognized his commitment to athletics, inducting him into their Hall of Fame. At this time, funeral arrangements are pending.

A Message From the Athletic Director

Welcome to a new spring of Monarch Athletics.  There is a renewed energy and spirit that comes along with the beginning of our spring season.  We have had an amazing adventure through the 2016/17 school-year.  Our football team went undefeated (11-0) and won the American Division Championship Bowl and our Men’s Water Polo won the Western State Conference, in back to back, stunning style!  Our women’s basketball team won their conference and went to the Postseason!

In addition, our women’s basketball team has been selected as a California Community College Athletic Association Scholar Team Recipient for 2016/17!

I can promise that our coaches and staff will continue to work hard to create an environment that creates excellence and expects success at the highest level.

It is great to see the hard work and dedication by coaches, staff and student-athletes, payoff in their recognized success.  The athletic department is a machine with many moving parts, and the collaboration of those parts is what makes the success so incredible.  The staff is devoted to the success of our students and I appreciate their efforts.

I am looking forward to the spring sports success and the rebuilding of our programs through recruiting.  If you are an athlete interested in playing any of our sports, please make sure to contact us!

On behalf of our coaches, staff, and alumni, we welcome you to LA Valley and thank you for your support.  Through our combined efforts, we will continue to generate the resources necessary for success within our athletic department.

With Valley Pride!

The Zone"

Our student athletes refer to our new computer lab, as “The Zone”, or the endzone that gets them where they want to go!

The new state of the art, satellite computer lab that was recently completed, within the new Community

Service Building, next to the Monarch Athletic Center. The "Zone" is funded and supported by the Equity Grant on campus.

This facility is available to all student athletes from 9am to 2pm daily! English and Math tutors are provided every Tuesday and Wednesday.  The computer center is the home of our athletic counselor, Reggie Reed (pictured on the right). Reggie is available to meet with all student athletes regarding their counseling needs. Full supervision is provided by John Fonua (pictured on the left).  As the supervising monitor, John collaborates with head coaches of all sports to ensure their teams study hall goals are met.

We are fortunate for the Equity Grant funding and proud of what we have to offer our student athletes to stay committed to their academic goals.
