Dev Com 22A-E
Work at your own pace at the Reading Lab in Bungalow 45. Each class is 1-unit, open entry/exit; students may enroll in up to 3 units per semester.
- 22A Phonics and Spelling
- 22b General Vocabulary

- 22D Study Skills (a self-directed, "smaller" version of DevCom 23)
- 22E Reading Improvement
Dev Com 35
A beginning reading class. Focuses on decoding
skills and vocabulary development. Although geared toward basic
skills development, more advanced students still have the opportunity to
work at their own level.
Good for Beginning Readers. Consistent for students who place into:
- English 33
- English 21
- ESL: English 80, 82, 83
Dev Com 36A
Early Intermediate and advanced intermediate class. 36A is not a prerequisite for 36B. Students are evaluated and advised, but we do not insist on placement. Focus is on reading.Good for Early Intermediate readers. Consistent with students who place into:
- English 21
- English 28
- ESL: English 83, 361
Dev Com 36B
Early Intermediate and advanced intermediate class. 36A
is not a prerequisite for 36B. Students are evaluated and advised, but we
do not insist on placement. Focus is on reading.
Good for Late Intermediate readers. Consistent
with students who place into:
- English 28
- English 101
- ESL: English 361, 362, 363
Dev Com 23: Study Skills
Good for most community college students. Focuses on study skills necessary for all students to be successful. Can be taken after 36A or 36B, or concurrently.
All Developmental Communications classes can be repeated.

Dev Com 22A-E Communications Laboratory
(5) NDA RPT2. Prerequisite: None.
This course is offered on a Pass/No Pass basis only. Open entry/open exit.
Lab: 18 hours over the semester, in The Reading Center.
Developmental Communications 22 is a modular, multi-media program teaching phonics, spelling, vocabulary, reading and study skills. Students may enroll sequentially in up to three units per semester. In each program, students work at their own time and pace.A. Phonics and Spelling

Dev Com 23 Techniques of Learning
(3) NDA RPT1. Prerequisite: None.
Recommended for students who score at the intermediate or advanced levels of the Reading Assessment Test.
Lecture, 3 hours.
Teaches efficient study methods and effective learning techniques. Course stresses outlining, note taking techniques, exam strategies and time management.
Dev Com 35 Reading I - Fundamentals
(3) NDA RPT2. Prerequisite: None.
Recommended for students who score in the appropriate range on the Reading Assessment Test.
Offered on a Pass/No Pass basis.
Lecture, 3 hours.
A basic reading class designed to diagnose reading problems; improve word-attack skills; increase sight and speaking vocabularies; develop dictionary skills; and help students begin to acquire the ability to identify main ideas.
Dev Com 36 Reading II - Comprehension and Related Skills
(6) NDA RPT1. Prerequisite: None.
Recommended for students who score in the appropriate range on the
Reading Assessment Test.
Lecture, 6 hours. (Course is offered as two 3 unit, 3 hour modules.)
An intermediate reading course which brings comprehension and speed up to the level required for successful and efficient mastery of college texts.
