BUILD PODER Information Table

The LAVC Career/Transfer Center (CTC) is hosting a BUILD PODER representative to talk with students who are interested in participating in a hands-on research training program at California State University, Northridge (CSUN). 

Building Infrastructure Leading to Diversity (BUILD) Promoting Opportunities for Diversity in Education and Research (PODER) is an National Institute of Health (NIH)-funded undergraduate research training program for undergraduates with the goal of diversifying the research workforce.

A BUILD PODER representative will be available to talk with students about the program on the following dates:

  • Tuesday, October 2 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the CTC in the Student Services Annex

  • Tuesday, October 16 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the CTC in the Student Services Annex

  • Tuesday, November 5 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the CTC in the Student Services Annex

  • Tuesday, November 13 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the CTC in the Student Services Annex

  • Tuesday, November 27 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the CTC in the Student Services Annex

  • Tuesday, December 3 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the CTC in the Student Services Annex

Students in BUILD PODER receive research training, professional development, and opportunities to present research at conferences. Students are put on a track to pursue a graduate education and research career. Benefits to program participants include paid research opportunities, 60% tuition support, priority registration, free tutoring & GRE Prep, conference travel funds, summer research opportunities, and professional development.

BUILD PODER is open to STEM and some social science majors who are is transferring to CSUN in Fall 2019, with a 3.0 minimum GPA, are a full-time student (12 units minimum), a US citizen, national or permanent resident, and plan to attend graduate school. The BUILD PODER application opens in January 2019.
