How to get a Student ID Card


The LAVC Student ID card is the official identification issued by Los Angeles Valley College. The Student ID card is the property of Los Angeles Valley College and it is not transferable.

  • The Student ID is issued at the Student Services Center (SSC) Admissions and Records Office. You can ask for your Student ID card the day after you enroll for classes.
  • Requirements: To request a Student ID, you need to:
  1. Be currently taking classes or enrolled for the following semester.
  2. Sign the Student ID Request form.
  3. Prove your identity with an official picture identification.

You can use one of the following as identification:
- California ID, California driver's license, the official ID or driver's license from another state.
- US passport or foreign passport.


  • The initial student ID is free. Subsequent cards are subject to a fee (Read FAQ).

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Why do I need a Student ID? It will be requested by many LAVC places such as Library, Foreign Language lab, Speech lab and Writing Center. You will need it to use the LAVC Prepaid Printing system. You will also get discounts at many stores when you show your Student ID. Some of the places that give discounts to students are movie theaters, buses and bookstores.
  • What information does the Student ID show? It shows your first name, middle initial and last name. In addition, it also shows your Prepaid Printing account number. Your Printing account number is the 16-digit number on the front of the card. That number is printed with spaces only to make it easy to read. The Printing account number does not have spaces.
  • Will my name's suffix or title show in the Student ID?
    Suffixes -- such as Sr, Jr, III, or PhD -- and titles -- such as Mr., Mrs., Ms., or Dr. -- are not shown on the ID
  • This semester, I am not taking any class but I have already enrolled for the next semester. Can I request a Student ID now? Yes.
  • I have the old Student ID (Monarch Card). Has it expired? No. The Monarch card has not expired. It contains the same information and works just as the new Student ID.
  • I have the old black and white Student ID. Has it expired? Yes. Please request a new Student ID. If you turn in the old black and white ID, the new one will be free.
  • Do I need to get a new Student ID every semester? No. The Student ID does not expire.
  • How much is a replacement ID? The price as of April, 2004 is $10.00. Please verify this price at the Business Office (located next to the LAVC bookstore).
  • If I change my name or student identification number, do I need to pay for a replacement ID? Yes.
  • I want to change the data on my card. How do I do it?
    Go to the Student Services Center (SSC) Admissions and Records office and change your official LAVC records. After doing that, go to the Business Office (located next to the LAVC bookstore) and pay for a replacement Student ID. Your new data will take 24 hours to be transferred to the Student ID system.
  • I have lost my Student ID. Can I get a replacement ID?
    Yes. Go to the Business Office (located next to the LAVC bookstore) and pay for a replacement Student ID. Then, go to the Student ID window. You will be asked to get a new picture and to proof your identity.
  • I think that the bar code or magnetic stripe was coded wrong. What can I do? Go to the Student ID window and ask them to test your card. If needed, they will replace it.
  • Can I call the Student ID window or the Business Office to verify if the window is open or to verify the current price of a replacement ID? Yes. The Student ID window phone number is (818) 947-2420. The Business Office phone number is (818) 947-2318.
