ARC Tutoring Services: Recent Updates

As the College transitions to remote services, please know that the Academic Resource Center (ARC) is committed to supporting students and faculty with the changes. Please find below FAQs that will helpfully address questions regarding tutoring. Please reach out directly to Scott Weigand (weigansm@lavc.edu) for additional clarification or assistance.

  1. Now that we are transitioning to online classes, what type of tutorial support will there be for students?
  •  LAVC’s Academic Resource Center (ARC) is providing tutoring with dedicated online spaces for the Math Lab, Writing Center, and General Tutoring. Canvas and Confer Zoom are utilized to provide both synchronous and asynchronous support.Computer support for students is available from the Computer Commons through ConexEd. 
  • Additionally, all LAVC students can use NetTutor’s online services to receive free online help in their classes. NetTutor provides comprehensive tutorial support for most subjects with help available 24/7 for high demand areas. Students can access NetTutor through their portal or through Canvas. For information on how to access NetTutor, submit papers, and more, visit the NetTutor information page.
  1.  If a face-to-face course had an assigned embedded tutor , what happens now that we have transitioned to online courses?
  • Embedded tutoring for designated courses is up and running. Embedded tutors are currently providing support to students through their instructor's Canvas course. Contact weigansm@lavc.edu with any questions or updates.
  1.  Will the ARC’s writing and math test review workshops still take place? 
  • Math Lab test review sessions and Writing Center workshops are scheduled and taking place through live Zoom sessions. Sessions are also being recorded so students can access the materials after the session. Join the ARC's Canvas Page for the schedule of workshops and Zoom links to access the sessions. 
  1. If students need self-instructional resources like handouts and videos to help with the content in their classes, how do they access it?

  • Continue to check for updates on the ARC’s website for all resources and updates related to tutoring.
